frequently asked questions

  • Your first session begins with a brief assessment in which I observe you perform several simple movements. The remainder of the session will incorporate exercises and stretches based on your individual goals and needs. Throughout the session, I will offer verbal and tactile feedback as necessary and will provide a safe space for you to ask questions. As you begin to move you may realize there are areas you didn’t even realize you needed to strengthen--or release! Each session thereafter will build on the last--you will see repeat exercises but no session is ever the exact same. Each session is 55 minutes.

  • You just need a mat (or even a large towel), laptop or ipad, and enough space for me to see your body sitting, standing, and lying down. Props are great to have but completely optional. You can still get a great workout with just your bodyweight!

  • Gym clothing such as leggings or shorts are great. The studio can sometimes be chilly, so make sure to wear layers on top. Bare feet are preferred but if your feet get cold, wear socks. Grip socks are best, so you don’t slide on the equipment. For Zoom sessions, it’s helpful to wear colors opposite to those of your yoga mat. For example, if you have a black yoga mat, wear lighter colored pants.

  • I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. All cancellations must be made online. Please refer to the Liability Waiver & Guidelines form to read more about my cancellation policy.

  • Yes! I work with complete beginners as well as advanced students. Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that can easily be modified and adjusted for anybody. I meet my clients where they are and often use my rehabilitation background to help my clients get stronger.

  • It depends! I often recommend that clients who really want to see and feel a difference start with consistent Pilates sessions twice a week. What you’re doing outside of our sessions also matters--consistent exercise, proper nutrition and self-care also play a role in your results. I offer home programs to those who are interested in keeping a solid routine.

 terms & conditions

  • Your standing appointments are held for you and you are expected to show to appointments on time in order to make the most of your session. If you come in for a drop-in session only, please do not expect that same appointment time for you to be available in the future. Each session is 55 minutes. Please allow extra time for parking. There is a parking garage on Pierce St. between Lombard and Chestnut St. for your convenience.

If you must cancel your appointment, please do so with at least 24 hours notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be considered a ‘Late Cancel’ and full payment for the session will be applied. No exceptions. The same cancellation policy applies to group classes.

  • A pre-paid package is required for all clients (5, 10 or 20). Clients must purchase a package BEFORE their session. Clients who are not on my regular schedule are not required to pre-purchase a package and can pay per session.

Payment is accepted via cash, check, Venmo or credit card (on kghpilates.com website). Please make checks out to Karen Henderson. Invoices are only given upon request.

  • Pilates is an absolutely amazing method to change the physical body and mind. In order to see and feel change, it must be a commitment—here, inside the studio, and outside of our sessions as well. My aim is to design a comprehensive program that will support you in achieving your goals. If you would like a home program to further your progress, I will create a personalized workout in video format for you. There is a one-time $200 fee for this service.

  • Exercise can sometimes feel uncomfortable and create muscle soreness and fatigue. You, as the client, are responsible for expressing to me right away if something does not feel safe or if you are feeling pain that is not productive.

A physician’s examination should be obtained before beginning any exercise program.
